A Lightweight Pack Built Around Conversation

Proximity Chat is a compact Minecraft 1.16.3 pack focused on positional voice for multiplayer. Instead of filling the server with machines, dimensions, and progression systems, it keeps the underlying game familiar while changing how players communicate.

The catalogue contains only three mods, including MumbleLink, Fabric API, and Jumploader. That combination uses Jumploader to support Fabric components while launching through Forge 34.1.0. It is an unusual arrangement compared with a straightforward Forge-only pack, which makes using the prepared pack installation much less fiddly than assembling it by hand.

This works particularly well for survival groups, roleplay communities, collaborative builds, and events where hearing players only when they are nearby adds something to the session.

Hosting Considerations for Proximity Chat

This is a small pack, so its server demands will commonly sit much closer to ordinary Minecraft than to a large kitchen-sink modpack. Memory use should remain relatively modest, while CPU demand will usually be driven more by Minecraft itself: world generation, loaded chunks, entities, redstone, and players travelling in different directions.

A few details still matter:

• Keep versions aligned. Minecraft 1.16.3, Forge, Jumploader, and the Fabric-side components need to match the pack. “Almost the same version” is often where older modded installations stop cooperating.
• Plan the voice setup. MumbleLink commonly passes positional information to compatible voice software. Players may therefore need the expected voice client and matching configuration alongside the Minecraft pack.
• Check client and server roles. Some voice-related components primarily run on the player’s computer. Avoid adding or removing files blindly just because they appear unnecessary on one side.
• Size for normal Minecraft activity. A quiet private world can start small, but larger view distances, rapid exploration, busy farms, and many loaded areas still increase demand.
