Swords and Spells is a Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge pack containing 101 mods, with magic and adventure at its centre. It brings together several distinct schools of progression rather than tying the whole server to one system.

Players can explore the rituals and research of Thaumcraft, build with the natural magic of Botania, study the stars through Astral Sorcery, or take a more direct approach with Electroblob’s Wizardry. ProjectE, EvilCraft, and Totemic add further routes to pursue.

Adventure has plenty of room too. The Twilight Forest, The Betweenlands, The Erebus, and Ice and Fire encourage groups to leave their established bases, while Biomes O’ Plenty broadens the terrain they encounter along the way.

Hosting Considerations for Swords and Spells

Although this is a relatively compact modpack, a long-running multiplayer world can become busier than a fresh server suggests. Magic systems often lead to elaborate bases with automated blocks, storage networks, decorative builds, and active effects all sharing the same tick loop.

Exploration is another common pressure point. Several included mods add large areas or separate dimensions, so players travelling in different directions can make the server generate multiple chunks at once. That can cause short lag spikes, particularly while someone is flying quickly or entering unexplored territory. Generating commonly used areas ahead of a group event can help.

Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge generally values strong CPU performance more than simply throwing memory at the problem. Enough memory matters, but excessive allocation can introduce longer Java garbage-collection pauses. Start with room for the pack, expected players, and world growth, then adjust from observed usage rather than guesswork.

Regular world backups are especially worthwhile before changing configs, adding mods, or updating an established server. Modded worlds contain blocks and data that vanilla Minecraft cannot safely substitute if something disappears.
