Plan for a Growing World
A 230-mod Minecraft 1.12.2 pack is usually more demanding than vanilla, particularly after players spread out and establish permanent bases. Exploration generates new terrain, while machines, farms, storage systems, and processing chains add work to each server tick.
Strong CPU performance matters because older Forge servers often depend heavily on the speed of their main server thread. Memory also needs breathing room, although simply assigning an enormous heap can introduce longer garbage-collection pauses rather than fixing poor tick performance.
Premium is the sensible starting range for most MagiTekkit groups, especially if the server will remain active for months or host several established bases.
Watch What Stays Loaded
Chunk loaders are useful, but they can keep automation running while nobody is nearby. Over time, permanently loaded factories, dense transport networks, large inventories, and unattended farms commonly become the bigger concern—not the initial installation.
Set reasonable expectations with players, remove abandoned builds, and investigate recurring lag before it becomes normal. Back up the world before pack updates or major configuration changes. If you adjust recipes or remove mods, test those changes separately before trusting them with the main world.
