BeyondHorizons at a Glance

BeyondHorizons is a Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.20.1, built around survival and exploration in a post-apocalyptic setting. Players travel through abandoned settlements, damaged landscapes, and overgrown areas while dealing with a harsher world than standard Minecraft.

The focus is narrower than a sprawling kitchen-sink pack. Rather than burying everyone under enormous technology and magic progression trees, it centres the server around atmosphere, scarcity, combat, and discovering what remains.

That makes it a strong fit for a regular group: players can establish a shared refuge, divide supplies, head out on longer expeditions, and return to a world that has continued without somebody reopening a local save.

Hosting Considerations for BeyondHorizons

Exploration packs commonly put their sharpest pressure on the processor when players generate new terrain. Several people travelling in different directions can create short load spikes as the server builds and saves chunks. A fast modern CPU matters more here than simply throwing memory at the problem.

World size can also grow quickly. Sensible borders, regular backups, and keeping an eye on storage help prevent an enthusiastic expedition from turning into thousands of rarely visited chunks. Pre-generating the area your group expects to use may smooth out play, although larger maps take time and storage to prepare.

Memory needs usually rise with player activity, loaded areas, and the size of the established world. Start with room to breathe, then check actual usage rather than assuming more memory always means better performance. Excessive view and simulation distances can waste resources without adding much to a bleak, close-range survival experience.

The pack includes performance-focused components, but optimisation does not remove the cost of world generation, active entities, or widely separated players. If the server slows down, measure tick behaviour first. Randomly removing mods or changing several settings at once often creates more trouble than it solves.
