A deep dive into what makes us tick and what we've learned over the last 13 years...

Minecraft has a whole array of achievements and advancements, some of which you may not have heard about. Perhaps even ones you tell yourself to not bother completing, or “i'll complete this someday”. For all you completionists out there, this blog may be of some help. Today we’re going to talk about the more obscure advancements, the ones that seem a little weird and a bit more challenging.

A complete catalogue

Tame all variants of cats. Yes you heard me crazy cat lady, get taming those wild beasts! Cats are commonly found spawning in villages. You tame them by crouching up to them with raw fish. You have to let them come to you as they are much too fast to chase. Once they are close enough, you can feed them the fish and when hearts pop up you know it’s tamed.   There are 11 cat variants to tame; Tabby, Tuxedo, Red, Siamese, British Short hair, Calico, Persian, Rag doll, White, Jellie and black. You’ll have a great army against the creepers once you’ve completed this advancement. For those who don’t know, creepers are terrified of cats.

A balanced diet

Eat everything! Even if it’s not good for you. This includes things like rotten flesh, poisonous potatoes and even puffer fish. There are 39 items you will need to eat to complete this challenge. For those who might be interested in completing this advancement, a list of the items will be at the bottom of this blog*.

When pigs fly

It’s as silly as it sounds. This advancement wants you to saddle a pig and ride it off of a cliff. Inevitably both you and the pig will take fall damage, but you get to gloat afterwards how you made a pig fly right? At the end of the day, it’s a bit of fun.

Uneasy alliance

Rescue a Ghast from the Nether, bring it safely home to the over world… and then kill it. This may seem a bit of a cruel advancement, but you were going to kill the Ghast in the nether anyway, so why not bring It home to the over world with you? If you are going for this achievement you will need a huge nether portal to get the Ghast through. Might be worth bringing some extra obsidian and a flint and steel. You also need a way of getting the Ghast through in the first place. There are multiple ways of doing this, the easiest would probably be with a fishing rod. While we’re on the topic of moving Ghasts, did you know they can sit in mine carts?

How did we get here?

This one is a challenge. Have every effect applied at the same time. How do you even do this? We’re talking levitating while feeling nauseous, being fast but slow, strong but weak while you’re withering away and invisible, and that’s not even half of it. There are 25 effects it wants you to have applied at the same time to complete this. It goes in hand with A furious cocktail advancement, which asks you to have every potion status effect applied at the same time.  Madness. A list of all the effects will be at the bottom of this blog~.

Adventuring time

This advancement is achieved when you discover every biome. You’re probably thinking, why is that weird? Well I can tell you there are 42 places this achievement wants you to go.  It doesn’t just want you to walk to an edge of a biome and think yes I’ve visited there. You have to explore! This is Minecraft after all. A great example of this would be the jungle. It doesn’t count as 1 biome off the list, it includes; bamboo jungle, bamboo jungle hills, jungle edge, jungle hills. You see why it’s strange now? If you’re out to complete this, prepare for a lot of walking, or if you’re lucky enough to own an elytra, a lot of rockets. A list of all the biomes will be at the bottom of this blog^.

Arbalistic

This is a hidden advancement, meaning that you can only view it once you’ve already completed it. To achieve this you have to kill 5 unique mobs with one crossbow shot. You’ll definitely need the piercing enchantment on your crossbow for this. It sounds like the kind of thing you would have to set up. I don’t see an opportunity in the open where 5 different mobs are lined up. We have to start wearing masks tomorrow so please remember to wear one, for the protection of all.

Serious dedication

The achievement will read “Use a Netherite ingot to upgrade a hoe, and then reevaluate your life choices.” I don’t think anything else needs to be said here.
